It was just another HOT afternoon in MANILA, PHILIPPINES where going to the mall wasn’t convincing enough of my body probably just LAZY to go so I decided just to write something useful that you GEEK and NERDS or CURIOUS one’s might want to know or you MAY already know what I’m going to talk about and that is MECHANICAL KEYBOARDS.
I came across with this photo in my Wall in FACEBOOK which is not mine and took the liberty to share it to you and some how what got me interested to write this in the first place. LOOK AT IT! Its amazing of how DURABLE and almost INDESTRUCTIBLE and could save you from buying 2 or 3 keyboards for a SINGLE MECHANICAL KEYBOARD of a lifespan up to 5 years or so unless you’re not a gamer and just use a keyboard for your daily YouTube video then this may not convince you.
I am no EXPERT in the topic of MECHANICAL and just wanted to SHARE a brief sight about it since MECHANICAL KEYBOARDS are coming back again and its redefining what was QUALITY all about. 88% of the world are now using RUBBER DOME keyboards which is CHEAP and can EASILY break if one use it EXTENSIVELY and I was one of those people who bought 2 keyboards after a year. Ahem . . . CD-R King
When I got my first Blackwidow UIltimate Mechanical Keyboard from Razer, my typing and gaming WORLD was changed FOREVER! It felt lighter and comfortable, I was confident that this keyboard won’t SIMPLY break for my typing/gaming days to come and so they say . . . .
Here are some straight forward questions and be done with the TOPIC.
1. What is a MECHANICAL KEYBOARD?
A mechanical keyboard is a keyboard built with high quality, typically spring activated, key switches. These key switches vary based on the keyboard’s application or user preference.
While some of the first widely sold keyboards such as IBM’s Model M in the 1980’s utilized mechanical switches, the 1990’s brought on a wave of inexpensive rubber dome keyboards that flooded the keyboard market. Rubber dome keyboards represent over 90% of keyboards in use today and provide an inexpensive but dissatisfying feel and typing experience.

They were built to last long and DURABLE enough to withstand any NERD RAGE nor intensive abuse you can throw at it. Its REALLY that well BUILT.
2. I don’t care! I just need a LOW COST keyboard to do some normal stuff . Why should I buy an EXPENSIVE one?
This keyboard will save money in the LONG RUN and will last about 5 to 7 years. (like in the photo with the cigarette keyboard)
3. Is a MECHANICAL KEYBOARD for me?
Ask yourself these questions first:
~ Do I type/game intensively? (Fb Wall commenting, Angry Birds and Plants vs. Zombies or Facebook GAMES DOES NOT COUNT!)
~ Do I spend a lot of time TYPING everyday? (Writing Essays, Typing 2 to 3 pages of DOCUMENTS , Pushing a lot of spell or WASD keys in games at the same time without missing a sec.)
~ Do you like CLICKY sounds and does not abhor you from typing when you hear them every time you press a key? (YES the mechanical keys are LOOOUUUDD especially the CHERRY MX BLUE’s, the BROWN’s and BLACK’s are decent and doesn’t CLICK that loudly)
The CLICKY sounds is an additional form of feedback for each keystroke. No more pressing of keys without knowing for certain if they have been actuated or PRESSED all the way!

4. What are the POPULAR and COMMON modern features other than being DURABLE and LOUD in typing that are included nowadays in a MECHANICAL keyboard?
– Individually backlit keys to type in the DARK or game
– Programmable keys with on-the-fly macro recording
– Unlimited customizable profiles (depends on the company your going for like RAZER, ROCCAT, CM STORM etc.)
– Braided fiber cable
– Audio-Out / Mic-In Jacks
– USB Pass-through
and the list goes on and on. Some even has a DEDICATED LCD monitor or touch pad that you can watch YouTube videos!
If you find the questions helpful and you said YES to all of them then a MECHANICAL KEYBOARD is suited for you!
